APG Endocrinology offers the latest advances for treating diabetes and its complications as well as patient education and support services.
The program includes the services of registered dieticians who are certified diabetes educators. The program includes AtlantiCare TEAM Diabetes and Gestational Diabetes American Diabetes education classes. The program also links patients to support services.
Matthew Corcoran, MD, is board certified in diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism. He is a certified diabetes educator and a certified exercise specialist with the American College of Sports Medicine. Following medical school at Georgetown University, Corcoran completed both his Internal Medicine residency and Diabetes and Endocrinology fellowship at the University of Chicago. He remained at U of C as an assistant professor of medicine, as well as the director of the endocrinology clinic, insulin pump and sensor programs prior to venturing out into the world of private practice. He has also previously served as an adjunct faculty member with the world-renowned Cooper Institute in Dallas, Texas.
Corcoran's passion and expertise extends into the world of diabetes, exercise and sports. He finds great joy in working with the individual with diabetes to help them accomplish their goals and dreams while managing their diabetes in the most healthful way, and founded Diabetes Training Camp-providing general fitness and multi-sport camps for adults with diabetes- to help pursue that passion. He has also been privileged to consult with many professional, Olympic and recreational athletes with diabetes and participated on the National Athletic Trainers Association writing committee for its first position statement on working with the athlete with type 1 diabetes. In his spare time he enjoys his own training, travel, as well as spending as much time as possible with his family and friends.
Taral J. Shah, MD is a board certified endocrinologist as APG Endocrinology. A 2007 St. George's medical graduate, she completed her internal medicine residency at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in 2010. After obtaining Internal Medicine board certification, she continued her training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson in 2012.
Dr. Shah diagnoses and treats diabetes, thyroid, pituitary and other endocrine diseases. She is very passionate about her career as a physician and helping her patients, the fulfillment of a childhood dream. She enjoys taking time to listen to her patients and working together with them to achieve the best suitable treatment plan. She has a special interest in diabetes and preventing its complications. The Joslin Diabetes Center helps a great deal by providing outstanding education and support services.
In her free time, Dr. Shah likes to spend time with her husband and visit her family and friends. She also enjoys traveling.
Maria Szpiech, M.D., joined AtlantiCare Physician Group (APG) Endocrinology in October 2016. She brings nearly 15 years of patient care experience to our team, with a special interest and expertise in treating patients with diabetes and other hormonal conditions, including thyroid, adrenal and pituitary disorders.
Dr. Szpiech completed her fellowship training in endocrinology and metabolism under the mentorship of a lead clinical investigator for the landmark Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She completed her internal medicine residency and internship at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center in Johnson City, New York, after earning a medical degree from the Medical Academy of Wroclaw, Poland.
In addition to her considerable patient care experience, Dr. Szpiech previously served as the assistant professor of medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina, where she was the Director of the General Endocrine Outpatient Clinic. Her most recent faculty appointment was at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Camden, New Jersey.
She is board certified in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine. In addition, she is a member of the Endocrine Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the Philadelphia Endocrine Society.
Margaret Jo Wilson, RN, MSN, APRN-BC, FNC completed her nursing studies at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in 1978. She completed her undergraduate education and graduate program at Widener University in Adult Health. She was certified as a Faith Community Nurse in 2011. During her career, she has gained experience in her career will working at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, the University of Medicine and Dentistry-School of Medicine, Dept. of Family Medicine and Regional Nephrology Associates in Northfield, NJ.
